This region covers Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough. Regional Coordinator, Barbara Stuart, has developed strong links with local farmers and landowners, enabling her to broaden the landcare message and work towards a landcare model that embraces entire catchments.

A number of landcare groups are active in the region. Eight groups are located in the Golden Bay area alone. Barbara facilitated a networking day enabling these groups to share information - link to follow>

The Starborough Flaxbourne project may have come to an end but it has left a legacy of innovative thinking and a ‘can do’ attitude towards dry land farming. The initial aims for the project were to gain community involvement, change farmer attitudes and land management practices towards farming dry land in the Awatere/Seddon area of southern Marlborough in the Upper South Island.
