Upper North Island

Whangarei is the base for Helen Moodie, NZ Landcare Trust’s Regional Coordinator for the Upper North Island. The region extends from the Far North down to Auckland and is one of the organisations most established offices.

The column on the right contains a list of projects.

Helen coordinates a series of significant projects funded by DoC and SFF (see links to project pages for details). Helen also has a key role with the MAF funded 'Rural Support Trust - Northland', helping rural communities prepare for adverse weather events -more>

Helen is also busy providing ongoing advice and support to a number of vibrant landcare groups in the region.

A coalition of nine separate groups have joined forces to form the 'Whangarei Heads Landcare Forum'. Great results have been achieved with a significant reduction in pest species and an improved environment for native flora and fauna.

The 'Tutukaka Landcare Coalition' also adopt a combined approach when dealing with pest control; an effective solution that has gained recognition from DOC.

'Restoring the Balance' is a practical resource kit designed to help landowners, farmers and community groups make informed decisions about protecting and enhancing their local environment. This document was created with DoC 'Biofund' support.

Another useful reference tool, 'Pest Control Guidelines' is also available, providing a thorough insight into this essential activity.
